Removing Headlice from your Environment

HL.Furniture_Kids_BedroomIf your child has come home with a head full of lice, you are going to have to do more than just comb the nits and treat their hair. Your home may be infested with the lice and if you do not remove the eggs and live lice from the area, you will have repeat outbreaks. It will take a bit of work to remove the lice from your environment, but it will pay off in the long run when your home and family are lice free.

Once you have treated your child and applied Essential Health Australia’s 100% Natural Headlice Blitzer lotion to remove the lice from their hair, you will need to:

  • Wash all bedding, throws, and blankets in the home. Be sure to wash them on the highest setting possible.
  • All items must then be fully dried at a high setting as well.  HL.bed-with-white-pillows
  • Any clothing your child has worn in the last 2-3 weeks will need to undergo the same washing and drying.
  • If there are any items that cannot be washed or dried on the high heat setting, put these items into trash bags, seal or tie the bags, and place them in an area of your home where they will be out of the way.
  • Quarantining the items allows the eggs time to hatch, and the lice time to die from starvation.

Once bedding and clothing has been treated:

  • Vacuum all material surfaces in your home
  • This includes carpets, mattresses, pillows, sofas, and chairs.
  • Use the brush attachment on the vacuum so you can disrupt the lice and eggs that have burrowed into the fabric.
  • Spraying a mist of essential oils like eucaplyptus can also prevent the lice from latching onto the fabric.

Keep in mind, the most common cause of head lice infestation recurrence is not removing them from your environment.

Careful and thorough removal can help to ensure your family will be lice free. Remember to use
